"I had hopes that Shannon wouldn't recognize me, but he pointed at us and shouted something, and the whole bunch of them started coming faster. Shannon drew his revolver and fired a couple of shots at us that must have missed by twenty feet or better, then spurred his horse for more speed.

I grabbed my rifle and started blasting at them but the buggy was bouncing so bad, I didn't hit anything at all. Hector stopped the buggy and I got off a couple of good shots that dropped one horse and stopped one rider's clock for all time. It was no good, I could tell. There were just too many of them, and too few of us. I looked at Hector, who had just emptied his revolver and only stopped one man. "What now, Hector?" He whipped the horse and hollered, "Now we run this rig into them and head for cover! Jump!"
