Brian and Rita are classmates and tennis partners at their boarding prep school in northern New Hampshire. Early in their senior year, when a deadly plague epidemic breaks out in Peru, the two friends each notice strange anomalies in the media coverage of the epidemic. Many details in the news reporting are impossible for Brian and Rita to believe (although their teachers and fellow students seem to accept the nonsensical "news" at face value). Less than a week later, a giant pharmaceutical company announces that, by pure luck or coincidence, one of their existing experimental vaccines appears to be the perfect weapon to combat the ever-spreading "Peruvian Plague". The two students are extremely suspicious that a nefarious plot is being orchestrated on a global scale. However, they know that before their suspicions would ever be taken seriously by people in authority, they would first have to discover the real motive behind the "vaccination program" and obtain hard evidence to prove their case. They embark on a risky mission to discover the truth - even though it means breaking rules which they've never broken before in their lives. In the process, Brian and Rita open up a conspiratorial can of worms more ominous than anything they could have previously imagined.
