MUSIC. OR JUSTICE. LIFE. OR DEATH.Upper Redmore Estate: a Victorian-era mansion, boasts thirty acres, thirteen bedrooms, and the largest glasshouse in the country. In the hope of keeping the Estate afloat in the twenty-first century and beyond, its aging owner, Baron Alberic "Albie" Hewston-Perthwright the Third maintains a skeleton staff and hosts a smorgasbord of paying guests. Recording their latest album, Albie's current guests are metal band Feral Flesh. After a stint in rehab, Feral Flesh bass player, Bearbark, is late joining the band on the Estate. He should be in his element in the Gothic mansion, dressed in his black leather trench coat, black jeans, a steel crucifix hanging from his neck. But he feels uneasy. Unsure whether he should be here at all. And what should be a revelatory reunion takes a dark turn when Bearbark hears what Feral Flesh have been recording without him. Soon he will be faced with a choice which will put his love of music, his love for his friends, his only family, to the ultimate test. "Feral Flesh" is a mystery/suspense short story which was first published in the July/August 2020 issue of Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine. In "Feral Flesh" a weary metal band strikes an uneasy arrangement with an eccentric British aristocrat. An arrangement which threatens to destroy them both. Approximately 30 pages (an hour-long read)
