Fenicus Flint, a gold dragon, is frustrated by life in Berathor Valley; not only does his personal tormentor harass him on a daily basis, but it appears as though his parents have forgotten all about his 109th hatching day celebration. While these trivialities feel like an unbearable weight bearing down upon the young dragon, they are nothing compared to the turmoil and responsibility that are soon thrust upon him. After Fenicus awakens from a terrible accident that leaves him injured and unable to fly, he limps home to find Berathor in ruins and deserted.
