Larissa Erickson is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints living in Idaho Falls. Just prior to the October 2018 General Conference, she turns thirty-one. For her, this means that after spending the last thirteen years in a Young Single Adult ward, it's time to move on. As Larissa starts going to a more traditional ward, she struggles with feelings of failure, loneliness, and depression. After several less than welcoming experiences in her ward, Larissa begins to struggle to feel motivated to continue to go to church. Throughout the book, Larissa turns to some of the conference talks for direction. Her desire to be obedient continues to come in conflict with what she feels like she can do. At times, she feels like she's being pushed to her spiritual limits.
