Aldouby employs an innovative pictorial approach that allows her to uncover a wealth of visual evocations overlooked by Fellini scholars over the years.
The author tries to link painting and Fellini's films with only varying degrees of success. Much of what is here seems to be speculation, a lot of reaching. I wasnt wholly convinced that Fellini referenced paintings when formulating his ideas and concepts and scripts for his films. Quite obviously, his own life (his childhood and early adult life), as well as his dreams were the key influences on the majority of his work. Yeah, maybe the inclusion of a certain painting on the wall in the background of a scene on La Dolce Vita (or some other small detail like this) was intentional and served some purpose. But was there enough of this kind of thing to write a whole book on? To me, not really. I got tired and annoyed by the phrase "art-historical", it was way overused. In fact, I was going to just let my entire review be just "art-historical", as a joke.
