Federal Benefits for Veterans, Dependents and Survivors 2014
Veterans of the United States armed forces may be eligible for a broad range of benefits and services provided by the U.S. Depart-ment of Veterans Affairs (VA). Some of these benefits may be utilized while on active duty. These benefits are codified in Title 38 of the United States Code. This booklet contains a summary of these benefits effective Jan. 1, 2014. For additional information, visit www.va.gov/. Eligibility for most VA benefits is based upon discharge from active military service under other than dishonorable conditions. Active service means full-time service, other than active duty for training, as a member of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, or as a commissioned officer of the Public Health Service, Environmental Science Services Administration or National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, or its predeces-sor, the Coast and Geodetic Survey. This booklet contains the eligible benefits for Veterans, their dependents, and survivors, including requirements, and paperwork needed for processing veterans' benefits. Active duty, veteran military personnel, and their dependents will find this updated annual guide useful for their medical and other needs for planning their future. Contact information and helpful websites providing additional information is included in this resource.
What your mother never told you (look for the latest revision)

It took me half a century before I realized that there were federal benefits for things other than being shot or going crazy. I had a friend who went straight from Vietnam to the VA for PTSD. I was not about to go anywhere near that place for fear of stigma. Big mistake.
I learned about this information the long way around. A parking spot is set aside for veterans. Wait, I am a veteran and just did not think about it. So all of a sudden, I learned the world of discounts. To add to that was AAFES shopping. Soon, I found I could even go on base if I had a VA medical ID that had a service-connected problem. From there, I found that not only was I missing out on a fantastic medical opportunity, but I could also apply for compensation.
Well, here we are with this “Federal Benefits for Veterans, Dependents and Survivors latest Edition, Paperback.” I already knew most of the stuff in the book before buying it. However, it is nice to have something in hand, and I was amazed that, regardless of the title, the book was printed yesterday, just 20 miles away, on demand. It even smells new.
The introduction warns that this is just a reference and that things change fast. However, it is chock-full of phone numbers and websites. Even though you can use the index to go to specific information, this is one of those books that you will want to read from front to back.
You will want to read this book before falling prey to those ambulance chasers online.
Any revision is worth reading, but the latest will have the latest changes.
