They became the first Romanian football team to reach the semi-finals of a European tournament, during the UEFA Cup in 1982-83. The club was temporarily excluded by the Romanian Football Federation on 20 July 2011, after it was not allowed to address civil justice in a labor dispute with coach Victor Piţurcă.
