Fate Will Twist the Both of You: 1998: Sportswriter, Kathryn "Kate" Donnelly, has just taken a new job at an entertainment-focused New York-based magazine. Before leaving on her first assignment, she is invited to a party at a family friend's house. She suspects it is set up because her dad's friend's son, Darius, will be back in town after performing on Broadway. She isn't interested in getting involved with anyone. She already endured a horrific breakup a couple of years ago that she wasn't willing to repeat.

A twist: Kate learns while on her first assignment that Darius is someone that her boss desperately wants to interview for the magazine. Kate undertakes the task of trying to obtain an exclusive interview. Upon meeting Darius, she sees what the appeal is. He's attractive both inside and out. She's on a mission, but she soon finds out Darius is on a mission of his own: her. She resists him for as long as she can.
