Fatality at the Fair: A Whisper Creek Mystery Book Eight

Life is just a merry-go-round. Sometimes you get ahold of the brass ring and sometimes you get stomped on by a horse ...

Vivienne Lucas, proprietor of the Brew Ha-Ha, Whisper Creek's most popular coffee shop, is worried about her thirteen-year-old granddaughter, Megan. Labeled a bully, the child has been suspended from school for fighting, and there are rumors floating around that she's associated herself with suspected gang members who live in her Denver neighborhood. Theo doesn't know Megan, but she and the girl's mother had been good friends until Juliet dropped out of high school right before their senior year. Between what Vivienne tells her and what she reads in Glory's journal, Theo finds out what's happened to Juliet since they sat together in geometry all those years ago. When Vivienne says she's afraid that Megan might be following along the same path as her mom, Theo doesn't hesitate to offer her legal expertise.

Megan finds her grandmother's shop and the other businesses housed in the Brubaker Building intriguing. The more time Theo spends with Megan, the more she's convinced that the stories about the girl's bad behavior have been wildly exaggerated. She can't help but notice, though, that Megan jumps at shadows, and casts worried glances behind her shoulder. The girl is afraid, and Theo begins to suspect that something evil has followed the Lucas women to Whisper Creek.

A few weeks after Juliet and Megan arrive, the annual Whisper Creek Fair is held at Blanca Fairgrounds. When Theo gets a frantic phone call telling her that Megan has disappeared, the search for the child begins. What Theo finds stuffed in the center pole of the merry-go-round proves her intuition is as sharp as ever. Those shadows Megan kept seeing were real, after all.
