Just plain fun

This book is fun to thumb through and has some great projects. What a wonderful combination, quilting and stenciling. I have really enjoyed using some the the techniques found in this book. A real gem for quilters who are looking for a bit of a twist.

great even for beginners

I am a beginner quilter but love the idea of using other media to embelish as i am not yet able to quilt complex patterns. this book offers many tips to incorporate stenciling in sewing projects large and small.I had the opportunity to see the author on a television show and was so excited I bought the book. No disappointment here.

Stenciling--a Surface Modification Technique for Quilters

By using freezer paper stencils, craft paint, fabric pens and other embellishments, Vicki Garnas provides quilters a creative alternative to conventional applique, especially for those who have trouble with "A word" techniques. Her directions are clear and the supply lists are concise, so getting started in a new medium is not difficult. There are seven quilt patterns with themes ranging from neighborhood houses and a campsite in the woods to bee hives, cars & trucks, flowers baskets, a traditional "Rose of Sharon" pattern, and others. Most importantly, there are several simple projects for wall hangings or pillows that will ensure success for the beginner before going on to more complicated stencils that require several overlays and colors. You may want to take some other favorite "house" patterns and try them as stencils. For example, patterns in "Welcome to the North Pole" and "Wear Warm Clothes" could easily be adapted to stenciling and pen & ink embellishment.
