Book Overview

J.K. Rowling's five-film Fantastic Beasts adventure series continues with the original screenplay for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

At the end of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald was captured in New York with the help of Newt Scamander. But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escapes custody and sets about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings. In an effort to thwart Grindelwald's plans, Albus Dumbledore enlists Newt, his former Hogwarts student, who agrees to help once again, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world. This second original screenplay from J.K. Rowling, illustrated with stunning line art from MinaLima, expands on earlier events that helped shape the wizarding world, with some surprising nods to the Harry Potter stories that will delight fans of both the books and films.

Original screenplay – read with your imagination.

This is the second play in an installment of a planned five-play series. These screenplays are also to become movies in the series “Fantastic Beasts.” This book not only adds to the J.K. Rowling book and film series but, as a standalone screenplay, holds its place and will one day be a part of cultural history. Being the second screenplay in a series, it is wise to read the first installment to keep up with the ongoing story. You may also be introduced to people, places, and things that may hold future relevance but not be wrapped up in this installment. Remember that a screenplay is neither a play nor a movie; it is the intended movie as imagined on paper. You may see electronic snippets of this book, but it is not like holding it in your hand and reading. The book is laid out in standard form with a foreword by David Yates, 09 SEP 18, A glossary of film terms (for a refresher), cast and crew of the film production, and about the author. There is ample white space and sketching to make reading easy. Reading the screenplay does not guarantee it will be in the movie or subsequent productions. It does, however, give the best description and intent to the story; you do not have to second-guess what is trying to be told or the surrounding environment. In the story itself, there's a great depth of real history and other writings that you can only be aware of if you are previously aware of them. This book will hold a prominent place on my screenplay shelves.
