Sweet Book! Rewards abound when kids +town take charge to save apple harvest of injured older man.

I loved this book because it shows the people young and old coming together to help without being asked. I live in Maine, apple farmers are so important to our economy and visiting apple farms/orchards at harvest time is tradition that offers fun with apple tarts or pies, cider, great apples, etc. Most all profits to keep these places well are taken in at harvesting time. When the older owner of this particular apple orchard is hurt and unable to get his apples picked, the town,kids and all jump to the rescue. Fancy is the beloved dog of the owner ..well, all put together this book made me cry and laugh and in the end just feel warm all over. It's a great book to reinforce the goodness of volunteering doing good deeds for others that need help but might not ask for it. The illustrations put the icing on the cake! Visually exciting for young or old. After reading this I read The Secret of the Knight in Kittery Maine(embarrassed this may not be the exact wording of title but it's another one of B.Winslows books). The latter book is wonderful also, I wish I'd been introduced to history in school with books similar to this one. I might have found history interesting before I was an adult. I highly recommend this book but reading level for a 'bit' older than first book. Buy both you won't regret it. I'm retired but still read all age level books. I like to know what books I can suggest to youngsters. Do everything you can to KEEP CHILDREN READING ! IF YOU KNOW A CHILD WHO "CAN'T READ" OR "HATES TO READ", READ TO THEM please!
