How ordinary is the ordinary family?

Mostly what we are looking for are famous people or shocking people or scandalous people - and, in America, the challenging history of slaves - but the more everyday people can be fascinating, too.

In 'Family Nightmares, Family Blessings' in one family there is a founder of the German National Socialist (Nazi) Party, a couple of carpetbaggers who crossed the English Channel with William the Conqueror in 1066, and a World War I German spy, but mostly people who lived through often bizarre times just trying to make a living while bombs rained down from the skies or they got on the wrong side, accidentally, of powerful people.

And then there are just fun stories - the guy who was robbed three times at gunpoint in two months, the couple who were forced to marry twice, the perfect couple who found each other in their teenaged years and really did live happily ever after, and the cousin who turned out to be a sister.

Maybe they weren't much, but maybe they were everything.
