Okay, I'll give it 4 stars but........

This was a well written story with one flaw....it's not a romance. It's a western. It was marketed to the wrong people. We wanted to see them fall in love....not hear about it. We wanted her to melt in his arms when she saw the undying love in his eyes and in his voice. Texas was one of the best heroes I've ever read...he was vulnerable and so in love with her yet she could care less, until the last chapter, of course. Pretty weak ending but I must say the characters were well written and the story unique. Read at your own risk, depending on what you're looking for.

I DIDN'T LIKE THIS BOOK. . ., BUT

I didn't like this book. I guess that's why I read it all in one night, cried, laughed and rated it 4 STARS. Go figure. This was my first book by Ms. Chance and it won't be my last. FALL FROM GRACE was definitely NOT your typical romance western. It was a gritty, hard, interesting story with gritty, hard and interesting characters. No easy choices here. No glamor. No pat, happy ending. What you do have is a good story.

I LOVED THE HERO BUT NOT THE HEROINE.

I absolutely fell in love with the hero, or should I say the outlaw, of the story. Texas Sharpe, though an outlaw, is an admirable man. He has honor, loyalty, and a great love for his wife, Lily. It broke my heart when he realized that Lily had betrayed him nearly causing his death. I understand Lily's anger toward the Sharpe gang. When she was only 12 yrs. old, her parents were killed by the gang. She was then "adopted" by them, taught to be an outlaw herself. Before her mother died in her arms, Lily promised her that she would do anything to survive. She did. But what I couldn't understand, was her coldness towards Texas, her husband. She even shot at him for God's sake! All throughout the story, we see Texas struggle with his emotions. Little by little, he's dying inside....Aside from my distaste of the "heroine", the story was a good one. I do recommend it.

Excellent!

Megan Chance has done it again with another incredible story. Texas and Lily were wonderfully original characters, and the story very well written. I didn't want it to end.

Best book of 1997!

I picked up this book on a road trip around Colorado and spent a good portion of the trip with my face buried in the pages, and not taking in the stunning scenery. I LOVED this book, loved the chances Ms. Chance took with the characters, loved how she made me care about them, despite some pretty dubious backgrounds. The whole relationship between Lily and Tex was handled with such subtlety and restraint that the tension--emotional and otherwise--made me squirm. I loved that Lily was strong and tough when she needed to be, and that Tex loved that part of her--when he finally got to know the 'real' Lily, the lady beneath what she'd become. This is 'the' book I hand to romance detractors, male and female, and say 'I dare you to learn otherwise'. Everyone I've given it to has been pleasantly surprised, including a male friend who stayed up until 2 in the morning because he 'had to know how it ended'. Thanks, Ms Chance, for taking risks and making me care!
