In Pursuit of the American Dream

Many people from the islands come to the United States on a quest for a better way of life. Those who actually get the opportunity soon learn it is not as easy as they thought. Some will give up after time, returning to their native home, while others will fight hard until they get where they want to be. Shaun Stephenson began fighting that battle even before leaving Guyana. Faith vs. Fate: The Shaun Stephenson Story by Harold A. Bascom and Shaun Stephenson is a fictional biography where one woman never lost her faith during the time she came up against many of life's unplanned obstacles. When Shaun got to the states, she lived with her aunt and uncle in New Jersey where they owned a restaurant. Shaun helped out there, but her dreams were never far from the forefront of her thoughts. Knowing that she did not possess the proper documents to obtain a job on the books, Shaun looked for something where they would employ her paying her cash giving her time to figure out how to get her permanent residency. No matter the type of job, she put her all into it. There was no surprise when she was introduced to Pre-Paid Legal Services Incorporated, that she would give her all to be successful. Shaun Stephenson is a strong woman. In Faith vs. Fate: The Shaun Stephenson Story she recalls the various different struggles she went through to be who she is and have what she has today. Her story is very inspirational and triumphant. The book is written using three different techniques and at times it caused a bit of confusion. The timeline at times were hard to follow, but the message was still prominent. The editing needed to be polished. I recommend Faith vs. Fate: The Shaun Stephenson Story to everyone, including juniors and seniors in high school. They need to know nothing in life is ever easy, but if you really want it you have to fight for it and keep the faith while doing it. Jennifer Coissiere APOOO BookClub

Keep the faith

This is a special book not only because of the real story it tells, but also because this book is a moment in the life of a very exceptional woman. Shaun, you show us every time we can do what we want as long as we believe. The sky isn't the limit even the stars aren't . Thank you for being a part of our life.

One Empowered Woman!

Shaun's book was very inspiring. Being new to this country and a woman too, Shaun shows everyone that with faith, hope, perserverance and a great work ethic you can get far. Yes, there were ups and downs but that is normal. Shaun didn't give up. This country is still the land of opportunity for all that still believe in it. Shaun is truly an empowered woman!

The Story of a Phenomenal Woman

This is an awesome book. This is a story of a Phenomenal Woman who would not let anything get in her way of her American Dream. Shaun came to the U.S. 14 years ago with only the clothes on her back and a dream of becoming an American citizen and living the American Dream. This book will be an inspiration to all who read it. The title is perfect. Shaun, thank you for sharing your story.

Great inspirational reading!

Shaun takes you along on her journey of personal purposeful dreams against all odds. I could not put the book down as I could relate to her on so many levels. She is certainly a great mentor to all women with a dream.
