Book Overview

In times of uncertainty, the truth is this: We need to trust God. Sounds simple, doesn't it? But what does trusting God look like? And how can we have faith in the midst of trouble, pain, and unpredictable circumstances? Elisabeth Elliot knows what it means to trust God when things are tough. In this beautiful gift book containing selections from some of her classic writings, you will find how faith can be a deep well of strength to draw from -- no matter what your situation. There's solace for the brokenhearted, straight talk about surrender and sacrifice, support for times of waiting, and comfort for those who wrestle with fear. This book will prod you toward positive action, urge you to take risks, offer sound advice, and gently soothe and comfort when you experience doubts and change. Through the courageous words of a woman who has found that God is enough for every situation, discover how to have a faith that does not falter. This material is also in print under the title Taking Flight. Book jacket.

Beautiful in Every Way

Now, really: why am I the first to review this? I've been searching for months now for the right Elisabeth Elliot book for me and when I finally find this gorgeous little book, it's by chance on a different website. Thank God I found it, but why is it so buried? As the title suggests, this gem has some of Elisabeth Elliot's very best writings on various different subjects. She examines the problem of anxiety, the importance of steadfast faith, the difficulty of patience when waiting for God's plan, and the true model of heroism that Jesus Christ portrayed. There are gorgeous Scripture quotes woven in, perfectly fitting Elliot's own words. One of the things I love about her writing style is that she doesn't come off as a teacher or professor, but simply a woman who has long been a daughter of God and who is sharing her reflections and convictions. I couldn't even begin to list all the issues she mentions here, but there are many, and a great deal of Elliot's writing is comforting and challenging at the same time. Accompanying the text of this book are strikingly beautiful autumn pictures, offering the beauty of God's creation along with lessons of His mysterious ways. I managed to stretch my reading of this book into four days and I'm still marveling over the intense beauty of it. I recommend this book to anyone, no matter what gender or denomination. It's wonderfully provocative, inspiring, and moved and challenged me at the same time. This gem is not to be missed! Thank you Elisabeth, and thank you God for your wisdom through her.
