As early as 1830, individuals began calling Fair Grove their home. Located on the Lake to the Gulf Highway (later to become Highway 65) that ran from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico, travelers overnighted at the Bell Hotel, the Fair Grove Hotel, Carter's Hotel or the Transient Hotel. If they needed a blacksmith, at least five were available. After automobiles came on the scene, if they needed gas, several stations were open, some giving 24-hour a day...
