Jason King is battling depression since his partner was murdered and Angie was taken by DCFS. He is drinking more and his work is getting sloppy. A great-aunt showed up and took custody of Angie and moved her to New York. After a disturbing phone call, Jason believes the young girl is in trouble. He arrives in New York in the nick of time and takes Angie to Pinewood, South Carolina to stay with an old female friend. One night on a drinking binge he notices he has several missed calls on his answering machine, but doesn't care. The next day he takes a call from his informant Arnold Chapman in D. C. who tells him of a case that only Arnold trusts Jason with. Jason goes back to D. C. and gets caught up in a tale of twists and turns. Meanwhile Jason is trying to juggle Angie's needs, deciding if he wants to stay in D.C., teaching a new Sheriff for Pinewood, trying to decide if he can have a relationship, all the while trying to escape an assassin. Jason King faces all of these challenges as only he can, with bravery and going on his gut feeling.
