Book Overview

In this "fun-filled and sensational tale by the incomparable Jayne Ann Krentz" (RT Book Reviews), a hard-edged businessman and a beautiful art expert make a tantalizing connection at a new age resort--but a killer threatens their piece of paradise.

Alexa Chambers has a flair for style, an eye for art, and a career in tatters after blowing the whistle on an employer who was selling fakes to wealthy clients. Now she runs a shop in her Arizona hometown, but she's determined to rebuild her livelihood even if it means taking risks. She begins secretly consulting on an exquisite art collection being installed at the new Avalon Resorts. Her scheme might just work--if she can steer clear of the resort's owner, the enigmatic and possibly dangerous J. L. Trask.

Alexa was a scared teenager the last time she saw Trask, the man who accused her stepfather of murder. Insisting his dad's fatal car crash had been no accident, Trask vowed one day he'd come back to Avalon for revenge. Now, twelve years later, their meeting is inevitable, and their attraction is immediate.

Trask wants to piece together the past with Alexa's help and get closer to this dazzling deco diva. Alexa wants to protect her family and figure out Trask's real motivations. But when a killer emerges from the shadows, they have no choice but to team up to solve a deadly crime from long ago. As they trade sizzling sparks and snappy repartee, their trail leads to a trendy spa called the Dimensions Institute, whose flaky denizens and strange atmosphere suggest there is more hidden there than meets the eye. They don't need a crystal ball to see that their survival--and relationship--depends on more than tantric exercises. They need a little help from a higher power: a true and trustworthy love.

FIRST AND DEFINITELY NOT LAST

This was my first Jayne Krentz book and I could not have been more thrilled with it. Her characters were captivating from the get go and the plot was as twisted as any I have read before. The killer is not revealed until the very end and I was up all night trying to GUESS WHO? I would have to say that I have become a JAK fan. I love romantic suspense and she gave it to me in full force in Eye of the Beholder. Great work. I can not wait for her next book.

I loved it!

I just finished "Eye of the Beholder" and found it to be one of the author's better books of late. I hate to admit it but I wasn't in any hurry to pick up this book since I'd read several of JAK's books recently and they had all started sounding alike. But I really liked this one and read it in 2 days - it would have been 1 day but life got in the way.I liked the interaction of the main characters and the eccentricities of the supporting ones. I love it when JAK adds the "odd" people - they make the story more interesting. It had drama, humor (a necessity), and just the right touches of mystery and romance, of course. I liked the fact that the story wasn't overwhelmed by the love interest (Trask & Alexa) but was neatly blended together with the mystery to create a thoroughly enjoyable story. But, I especially liked the fact that I couldn't figure out the entire plot until the end of the story. Tho' the story was lightweight compared to some, it kept me interested and curious. I've read several mysteries lately that were a waste of time - this one wasn't. So, even tho' I thought the ending came a little too quickly & neatly, my only real complaint is the fact that Trask's brother was missing at the finish. How could the story end without Nathan showing up? He's there at the beginning, he's there in the middle, but along comes the ending and he's no where in sight...?

Loved every minute of this one!

Alexa Chambers is an expert in Art Deco of the early twentieth century. In fact, she is the one who pulled the plug on her employer's huge art scam. In return, she lost her job and her reputation. After all, who wants to hire an expert who would be honest about their employer's dealings? Alexa went to ground for the scandal to die. She now runs a little shop in her home town. J.L. Trask first saw Alexa when she was but a teenager. He had gone to her house to accuse her stepfather of murdering his own father. Now, twelve years later, he returns to find answers to his father's death. Alexa and Trask have an instant mutual attraction. The whole town knows the history of their families and everyone wonders who is using who. Then someone is murdered and two other attempts are made against people in town. Unless Alexa and Trask can find out who the murderer is, they will be the next victims! ***THIS IS THE NEWEST KRENTZ RELEASE! The author once again managed to capture my interest at the beginning and hold onto it through the entire story. A hero for a woman to dream of and a heroine for a woman to admire. Jayne Ann Krentz is a master at Mondern Contemporary!***
