This book provides a brief overview of information on the Nile River. Fascinating facts about the Nile River include that it is 4,150 miles long and extends from Central Africa to the Mediterranean Sea. Its origin is only a small spring in Burundi, but it picks up water from several other rivers as it continues its long journey across the equator to the Mediterranean Sea. Many plants and animals depend on the water from the Nile River. From the lush forests of the mountains to the grasslands of the savannas to the shrubs in the desert, many varieties of vegetation depend on the waters of the Nile for life. The Nile also supports an abundance of wildlife such as rhinoceroses, hippos, crocodiles, the red-billed ibis and basket weaver birds. The River is also the habitat of many fishes, such as the Nile perch and the Nile catfish. The Nile River has witnessed a long history, but the current challenges of environmental change due to human overpopulation and industries make its future uncertain.
