Excellent tool for building the self-esteem of young women.

This book provides fine examples of historically important women, and is written for children of the age when girls start to slip behind boys in scholastic achievement. The lives and works of nearly 60 female scientists (I hade using that phrase -- no one ever referrred to "Einstein, the male scientist") are documented in a simple way that will appeal to children. This is not to say they will find it light reading. Most of the scientists here are white, but there are a good number of black women covered too; this greatly increases the book's appeal. It's an especially uplifting volume, and will be helpful to pre-teen girls just starting to get distracted by things other than their schoolwork. Inspiring and well-researched, this book would make a wonderful gift.
