Like other physiological systems, the development, structure and function of the vascular system are under the control of multiple nuclear receptors. However, very few studies have been carried out on the involvement of orphan nuclear receptors in the vascular system. The aim of this work was to study the expression and regulation of RORα, which belongs to this superfamily of orphan nuclear receptors, in vascular cells and whole vessels, and then to highlight some of its functional roles in the vascular system. The present work provides for the first time new data on the vascular phenotype of staggerer mice with a mutation in RORα. In particular, we have demonstrated that RORα plays an important role in blood pressure control and is involved in post-ischemic angiogenesis.
