This book is not a critique of the beliefs espoused by those who identify as Christians. Nor is it a criticism of any one particular individual or religious affiliation/denomination. Rather, it is an expos of the hypocritical actions of those who claim to follow Christ, but (deliberately) fail miserably. Let it be noted that, although some of the quotes herein use the word "Christianity" when exposing the evil attitudes and actions of some, Christianity and Christendom are not at all the same thing. In other words, when you see the word "Christianity" used in the quotes, replace it in your mind with the word "Christendom." By way of explanation, Christianity refers to those who genuinely and un-hypocritically follow the teachings of Jesus Christ to the best of their ability. Jesus summed up his teachings by saying that the most important commandments for a true Christian to follow is to display love for God and for his fellow man. Christendom, on the other hand, only claims to follow Christ but gives the lie to this assertion by its actions. In other words, Christendom is to Christianity what a road apple is to a golden delicious. In reference to her professedly regal status, the Empress of Christendom has no (clean) clothes. This volume assembles some criticisms of Christendom from various sources, including Benjamin Franklin, Mark Twain, Frederick Douglass, Plenty-Coups (all of whom are co-featured on the cover), Will Durant, Aldous Huxley, Black Hawk, and others.
