Experimentation on Haz in Rotation Arc Welding for Mild Steel

In a rotational arc welding process, the concept of temperature distribution is essential in order to control the HAZ (heat-affected zone) dimensions and get the required bead size, quality and microstructure of heat affected zone. In present research work an analytical solution for moving heat source with Gaussian heat distribution of inside volume of semi-central conicoidal shape of heat source will be derived. Heat transfer in low alloy steel welded plates is assumed to be the conductive heat transfer of a semi-infinite body and radiative heat losses from the weld plates will be neglected. With the help of this analytical solution, transient temperature distribution and HAZ width can be predicted. Experimental and analytical values will be compared and the comparison is assumed to give compatible results. Microstructural examination on samples will be carried out to find the prominent grain growth in the heat affected zone.
