Experimental Hypnosis contains twenty of the world's leading authorities who explain what hypnosis is and how it has been used in curing a variety of illnesses of the mind and body. A lot of ideas that are assigned to supernatural or extrasensory are, in fact, a common effect of hypnosis. One of the most telling chapters is on Hypnotic Regression by Brian A. Norgarb, Ph.D. The introductory note states: One of the most interesting and most highly controversial topics in the field of hypnosis is that of age regression. Investigators in this area have tended to divide themselves into two camps. The first point of view, held by several able and skilled experimenters, contends that age Regression is merely an artifact, a kind of almost-conscious acting out by the subject to please the hypnotist. The second group maintains that age regression is real, involving the actual blocking off or inhibiting of recent behavior patterns. This permits earlier patterns of behavior to become more operative, and within the limits of the present physical structure of the subject, these are relived and experienced just as they were many years before. At the time I purchased this book, I was in the Ft Worth Hypnosis Institute and we were dabbling in past life regression.
