This was my first Jack Higgins novel and also the first 'grown up' book I read in my early teens. I liked the characters, Higgins etches them out very well. His economy of words and quick set up of the scene is something I have always admired. The action is taut and suspenseful and the ending is satisfying. The Falklands war as the backdrop, he crafts a good thriller with one or two cliched villans but a hero I really liked - Tony Villers. It's just sad this character hasn't been used in Higgins' other books. Nevertheless a good read.
the book is a great read not a superb read.

this book was not as good as his other works. I did like the ending. This is not a superb work, but an above average work.
