Kira Carmichael lives with her fianc Jeremy. They are a happy, successful couple, very much in love. One April morning, wearing what she refers to as her 'Pretty Woman' spotted dress, Kira leaves for her work at the Ivan Cole Estate Agency. The sun is shining, the music in her car is blaring as she drives through Edinburgh city centre to the agency which is situated in Bruntsfield. Her last scheduled appointment of the day is to show a client by the name of Mr. Darcy a property for sale in Regent Terrace. That evening she does not return home and as the hours pass, Jeremy has no option but to contact the police. The missing person's inquiry soon accelerates to a criminal investigation when her car is found abandoned at the property in Regent Terrace. Her handbag containing her bank cards, money and personal belongings are found on the passenger seat of the car. An extensive search of the area uncovers Kira's 'Pretty Woman' dress, torn in several places in a bin at the rear of the house. The police explore all avenues by interviewing family and work colleagues as well as appealing for witnesses. Hours of CCTV footage is trawled over, a reconstruction of Kira's last movements is filmed, and her loved ones make a heartfelt plea to the public for information. As time goes on, the trail turns cold. Kira is presumed dead. Jeremy is a very troubled man, but he now accepts that his beloved Kira will never be found alive. On his way home one evening he passes the 'Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Spiritualist Centre' on the street where he lives. He attends a meeting in the hope that he will receive a message from the grave from Kira. There is no message for him. As a last resort, he books a private reading with Claire Voyant, a medium at the spiritualist centre. His meeting with Miss Voyant changes everything. The shocking information she supplies him takes this story down a darker, more sinister road. Claire Voyant tells him to, 'Consider the classics.' With that clue, Jeremy embarks on a quest which leads to deception, murder and destruction.
