Grabs your attention from the first sentence!

Reviewed by Anthony Pettrone (age 14) for Reader Reviews (7/07) "Exit Point" is one of those books that grabs your attention from the first sentence. You see, this book isn't a typical character book. It is about a boy named Logan Freemont who because he was showing off, got into a terrible car crash and died, leaving his life unfinished. If it wasn't bad enough that he died when he was just a teenager, he finds out by talking to his guide Wade and his grandma who died before him, that by being so stupid he ruined his chance to help his sister Amy. Since he is dead, he can't save her from what is happening to her, and he can't fix what is wrong with her life. Logan feels really bad about messing up his life, and although he wants to go on, he also wants to help Amy, especially when he finds out Amy's problem is his creepy uncle Herb has been molesting Amy and has some `big' plans for her, plans Logan can't stop because he is dead. What happens next in the story and how Logan tries to help Amy and right his wrong, makes this book a great read and a book that really keeps your attention until the end. Though I thought it might be a lame storyline, I actually found myself liking the characters, especially Logan's grandma who is pretty cool! The other characters are good too and the way the author ends the book is awesome and really powerful. It says it all without saying a word which is really a neat way to end a book. I'd recommend this book for kids from about 13 on up, and not much younger as some of the stuff about Amy and uncle Herb might be too upsetting for younger kids. Although the author doesn't go into detail, it still is a subject that younger kids might not feel comfortable reading, and because of that, the reader should be mature enough for subjects like molestation and death before reading "Exit Point."

Great book for exploring consequences in and after life

I bought this book for my then ten-year-old daughter. She has re-read it this year and says today as she did a year ago..."It was so good I wish it was longer!" Langston delves into the concept of an adolescent who may have chosen to die before all of their spiritual lessons were learned. It also deals with the determination and love of a boy that occurs even beyond the grave. Truly thought provoking for tweens, teens and even adults.
