Belfast 1978. Catholic James falls in love with Protestant Lizzie. Knowing the risks, they keep their identities secret from each other. When both suffer the loss of a family member in violent circumstances, their respective communities whisk each of them to safety overseas - but to different countries, whilst Darry, an ambitious I.R.A. operative, is caught and jailed for one of the killings.
