Excavations at 38AK172- The Hitchcock Woods Pottery- 2015

38AK172 is known as the Hitchcock Woods Pottery. It is located in Aiken, SC and was the site of an alkaline glazed stoneware pottery kiln. In 2015 preliminary excavations were aimed at determining whether the kiln was intact. We were successful in finding an intact kiln floor and waster pile. Artifacts, including partially reconstructed vessels from private collections, were examined and many are illustrated.This is a preliminary report on on-going work.
