Gaining Clarity on Early Daoist Thought Through Excavated Manuscripts 凭借出土文献 看清早期道家思想 Excavated Manuscripts and Early Daoism offers a relatively comprehensive study of excavated Daoist texts and their philosophical ideas, holding significant importance for the research and reconstruction of Pre-Qin Daoist philosophy. The book consists of five chapters, primarily investigating the philosophical thoughts contained in the Guodian bamboo slips Laozi and Taiyi Shengshui; the Shanghai Museum bamboo slips Hengxian and Fanwu Liuxing; and the Mawangdui silk manuscripts Jingfa, Shiliujing, Cheng, and Daoyuan. Chapter One examines the ideological content and characteristics of the Chu slip version of the Laozi. Chapter Two discusses the core concepts, propositions, textual division, and scholarly affiliations of Taiyi Shengshui. Chapter Three provides an in-depth analysis of two key concepts in Hengxian, centering on "heng" and "hengxian". Chapter Four explores the philosophical thought of Fanwu Liuxing, focusing on the concepts of "One" and the "Way" (Dao). Chapter Five elaborates on the ontological thought found in the silk manuscript Daoyuan. The book also includes two appendices, offering annotations and translations for the bamboo texts Taiyi Shengshui and Fanwu Liuxing. He is a Professor and Doctoral Supervisor in the Department of Philosophy at Tsinghua University, and a Distinguished Professor awarded under the Changjiang Scholars Program. He concurrently serves as Vice President of the Chinese Society for the History of Philosophy and Vice President of the Chinese Zhouyi Association. He is also a recipient of the National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation award. His research primarily focuses on Chinese philosophy, Confucian classical studies, and the thought found in excavated bamboo and silk manuscripts.
