*Everything Is Fine follows Jo, a copy editor in Chicago who is, by every external measure, holding it together - color-coded calendar, good job, functional adult life. Internally, she's a different story: sleepless, avoidant, running on carefully maintained routines and deflection. The novel traces her slow, reluctant reckoning with the gap between those two versions of herself, nudged along by her best friend Dani, a student who has been quietly, patiently suggesting therapy for eight months. The tone is wry and closely observed, with a lot of the humor coming from Jo's hyperarticulate inner life bumping up against things she can't quite bring herself to say out loud.
