This book is well organized and takes the time to explain the different concepts and needs of the beginner when starting the family tree organization and search. I was very fascinated with chapter 20 on “uncovering your genetic roots.” As it may not be a specific as you assume.
Keep in mind that no book can be “everything” on a subject. However, this one is a great addition to your repertoire. I am using it in conjunction with “Family Tree Maker 2024 Deluxe” by Nova Development US.
Outstanding Choice for Beginners

Just went to the local bookstore to find some good books for my mother-in-law who has expressed an interest in family history. After reading through several excellent choices, I finally settled on Everything Family Tree by Kimberly Powell. The layout and format is very easy to follow and the writing is friendly, professional, and easy to understand. It covers every genealogy topic I can think of, including surname origins and DNA testing, plus research in all of the major record types. Not very expensive either, so I ended up buying a second copy for myself. An outstanding book for beginner to intermediate genealogists.
