Everyone Wears Smoked Glasses is a comedic satire on Hollywood's golden age, seen through the eyes of Frank Waring, a gay English mystery writer who in the late 1930s is summoned to Los Angeles by a major studio to adapt his book, The Fuzzy Dog, to the screen. In the Writers' Building he meets with the usual capricious negligence afforded to imported authors, while taking in the table cliques in the studio commissary and the surreal sights of the back lot. He soon lands in the Garden of Eden, an upscale bungalow court that plays host to a swath of moviedom and crime: from faded silent-era stars to a Texas oil millionaire setting airplane speed records; from society photographer Piper Vane to round-heeled starlet Yolanda Del Mar, whose fate seems -pre-ordained. Frank befriends a handsome private detective named Tom, who knows everything about everybody at the Garden of Eden.
