When I watch the news, people talk about asylum seekers.
They say many things. Some say we are dangerous. Some say the smugglers are bad. Some say the people in England do not want us here.
So I wanted to write my story - to show it is not always how the news says. I wanted people to know what really happened to me: how I travelled, who helped me, and what I found when I reached the United Kingdom.
I met many kinds of people. Some looked away. Some smiled. Some shared food when I had none. This book is not about politics. It is about kindness, misunderstanding, and the small choices that show who we are.
At first I wrote it in my own language while waiting for my asylum papers. Later my friend Ahmed helped me write it in English, so people in Lincolnshire could read it too. He said I should keep my own words because they sound honest. I said thank you. Honest words are free.
- Asif M.Everyone Was Very Kind is a quiet, hopeful story about finding dignity and belonging in a place that wasn't sure it wanted you - a reminder that behind every headline is a human being, just trying to start again.
