Every Step Taken: Confessions of an American Gypsy is a memoir of the life of a very special young man who was born and raised on Martha's Vineyard Island (AKA The Gilded Cage). That boy dreamed about riding the 7 seas to lands far from Martha's Vineyard where he always dreamed of traveling to.

James Occouch - van der Hoop was born to and he grew up in a very powerful island family and never went without a meal or clean sheets like some island kids did. His parents doted on him and provided everything that he could ever need. But the little boy from East Chop, Oak Bluffs was destined to go out into the world to have as many adventures as he could whilst he was young and spry.

James was the Black Sheep of his family since he could stand and walk on his own he was always determined to go his own way. James was always fiercely independent and relied only on himself as things can get a bit existential in a family of 4 boys. Instead of dreaming of starting a family and securing a permanent, year around job on the Vineyard. James was plotting and planning his escape and he swore to himself that he would never be tied down to a mortgage or to a car note. And so it was.

This is the first book written by James Occouch-van der Hoop who would go on to marry HRH Prince Louis of Bourbon Dampierre in 2022 and thus become a Prince Consort in his own right. Thereafter James' name changed to HRH Prince James of Bourbon Dampierre, Duke of Aqutaine.

This book is the beginning of James' life as a man who wandered far and wide trying to understand the world one mistake at a time.
