But is his disdain for this long-cherished local holiday only a red herring for something else? In von Hoffman's debut short story, he speaks to the old grump, as well as the inner child in us all, and through the lens of both, he shows us that hope and closure are gifts we can receive from ourselves, and can be given freely.
