Every Secret Leaves a Scar
Every Secret Leaves a Scar
Forensic specialist Elena Kessler has spent eleven years reading the things dead bodies won't say out loud. She never got the chance with her mother - Ruth drowned in Blackwater Lake twenty-two years ago, and the county closed the file in four days flat.
Then her younger sister Callie is pulled from the same water.
Elena knows a staged drowning when she sees one, and everything about Callie's death says someone wanted it to look exactly like the "accident" that took Ruth. Returning to the small Pennsylvania hometown she left behind, Elena starts pulling threads - a hidden flash drive, a hollowed-out paperback, a hospital record no one was supposed to find - and uncovers a decades-old secret Calloway Memorial Hospital has been burying since before she was born.
The town runs on the Calloway name. Everyone who works there, banks there, or owes their job to that hospital has a reason to look away. But Elena isn't asking anyone's permission anymore, and each answer she finds puts one more person she cares about directly in harm's way.
Some secrets don't stay buried. They just wait for someone brave enough - or angry enough - to dig.
