must have book

my husband is obsessed with everquest and he says this book is a must have!!

WOW - Be Sure To Get The "Revised" Version!!

WOW!! This book nails the details of EVERQUEST, so if you are serious about playing this online game, be sure to pick up a copy of this book. There are about three versions of the book, so BE SURE TO GET THE "REVISED" VERSION (it has the red triangle in the lower left corner). Also, be sure to compare the races before setting up your character then be sure to obtain the applicable maps to maximize your efficiency. You will only regret this if you decide to jump into the game without them (easy to get lost).Good Luck with EVERQUEST and don't forget to order a copy of THIS book (be sure to have your buddies get a copy, too)!

Great Resource

I'm a newbie to Everquest and have found this guide invaluable. The sections on races and classes give you the info you need to build a solid chrachter. The listings of class spells are very handy. It also includes some maps of towns which are great. There are lits of terms that are useful to know "gamespeak" ie:LOL,SoW,twinking. Also as an extive listing of the game commands (command line) and fun emots you can use. (HUG,Gesture)This books helps you get up and running quickly.Careful consideration should be taken when creating a charachter. This book is an invaluable resource in that area.Great for newbies and a great rference text in general.

Invaluable reference

Ok, there are a few things this book doesn't do well:1 - Tell you everything. Sorry, but the spoilers are minimal.2 - Cover tradeskills.I'm a fanitical tradeskiller, and I had to print out a chunk of a website to get the information I needed for the recipies.Outside of that, There are a few things I keep by my computer for EQ. This book, my tradeskill manual (printed from a website) and paer for notes. This book is great for finding your way around a new city. Just got gated to Commonlands and need to find the Freeport Bank? Open to cities of Antonica.Thinking about starting a new character? Check out the race and class combinations to get a feel for the advantages and disadvantages or each. The book has the final advantage that it is a hardcopy. Unless you have two monitors and two computers, there are times you need to look up something quickly without camping. This book is perfect for this.Eventually you outgrow the information, that is you will need to take notes and pester people or visit a site, but you never fully outgrow it. No matter how much you play there is always a use for the information in this book. And of course, the information is not completely accurate. That's one of the things that makes Everquest fun. Caveat Emptor! No reference guide is a substitute for doing it yourself.

My copy is dog-eared

I almost didn't buy this book because of the other reviews, but I'm glad I did. I'm sure this book wouldn't be much use to an Everquest veteran, but a newbie will find it invaluable. The section on Everquest slang is particularly handy to keep you from being completely confused in the game.Yes, a lot of good information is online, and I have downloaded much of it, but when you need to refer to something quickly, flipping through a book is a lot easier than shuffling through a stack of papers (and I have mine organized into folders). As far as any inaccuracies, this is an online game, people, not a static one. There's a new patch almost every week. Of course some things have changed. However, I did not find any glaring inaccuracies that caused me any problems. If you're an Everquest newbie, you need this book.
