Evergreen's pieces have a voice of adolescence, which differentiates the book from its predecessor, Ephemerality. Written over the course of ten years, Evergreen reaches back into the past to let the voice of a young Keiran James be heard. Some pieces are new, referencing back to the first book, but mostly it is an ode to oneself, to healing the trauma of childhood. It is a hard decision to make, publishing work that is not the writer you are today, but Evergreen is published with the intent of comforting the inner child who had never let herself be heard.
