To say Carol has a personality problem would be an incorrect understatement, she has two problems.

Take two men and allow Carol to give one of them an adventure with reality, even though he couldn't possibly understand. The recipe is doubtless explosive but things don't hang around long enough when amnesia sets in.

Joe's theory on how to how to advance mankind appears to be working. However, every now and again weird science starts to break through coupled with the effervescent odour of Carol lingering softly in the air.

Then things start to get serious and we move from the laboratory to a much larger testing ground, where all control is in the hands of the gods or something, which does a similar thing. This cosmic courtroom has no moral overtones yet is adept at administering a severe correction.

In the end maybe reality can settle down to a steady confusion.
