Evening Light: A Retrospect in Stories and Poems

FROM THE AUTHOR'S NOTE:

Being among these stories and poems] now gathered, it is as though I am taking a late afternoon walk in the neighborhood after a long day. Each house I see along the way is beginning to be lit from within as those who live there settle in to their evenings. The lives behind each window are as familiar to me as if I too can hear, smell and move within the flow of being gratefully home at last.

Darkening blue light suffuses the sky and I share the humanness of being held within these warm rooms. I feel I am one of the family as I pass by even though we are all so very different now - each to each a mystery like the darkness rising from the shadows of the earth.

CRITICAL PRAISE FOR EVENING LIGHT

Jemi Reis McDonald's heart-opening book doesn't merely discuss the nature of loss and recovery. With her sensorial writing, she immerses us in the journey, allowing us to see, feel, and deeply notice the earned details of her own richly lived experience. The result of this communion is breath and hope and a visceral re-union with ourselves and the world.

Deb Norton, author of
Part Wild: A Writer's Guide to Harnessing the Power of Resistance

This is a tender, poignant story of life and love and loss and survival. Every line is pure poetry written with a light and delicate touch, saturating the senses with wonder, charm and grace. It is to be treasured and read over and over again.

Carol Fowler Lee, author of
The Fowler Chronicles 1961-1981

Poetry and lyrical essays are so much about rhythm. Evening Light is a stately gait with some lovely quick staccato moments . . . it's beautiful. A major achievement and a wonderful piece of art.
