Each chapter in this book relates equally to male and female and is interchangeable, even though exclusive reference is made to the male. If an unfaithful wife is the defendant, then it is quite easy to make the adjustment in addressing this reverse issue of unfaithfulness. Infidelity is a violation of a couples assumed or stated contract regarding emotional and/or sexual exclusivity. Sometimes the dominos are lined up ready to fall, while at other times there is no clue until met with a tearful confession or discovery of some incontrovertible evidence (e.g., earring that is not hers, changes in grooming habits, abrupt change in sexual relationship, cell phone usage, different cologne or perfume, etc.). Victims have often described the hurt from infidelity as similar to the pain associated with the death of a loved one. It is important to know that finding out that one's spouse is cheating can be extremely traumatic. In fact, current research suggests that betrayed spouses exhibit symptoms similar to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). It is a major loss and as with most losses, betrayal is intensely disorienting and distressing. This is the true meaning of recovery--that you must redeem this exiled part of you and become whole and healed once again.
