Amelia's story begins a month after she has been dumped by her boyfriend of three years, Ted, with whom she was head over heels in love, for Jessica, her oldest girlfriend from high school. In addition to this, she has been stuck for the past two years making ends meet working as a restaurant reviewer for the Parish Press. (Not to mention her boss, Victoria Amstel, is a tyrant who seeks pleasure in making Amelia squirm). It's not that her job is all that bad, Texas has some great food to offer, but it wasn't exactly what Amelia had planned on doing with her life or with her journalism degree. Still reeling from the loss of Ted and Jessica, Amelia meets a charming restaurateur named Alex Cruz. Over time Amelia learns that Alex is nothing like her former boyfriend, as he does his best to prove to her that there is still hope in the male species. It isn't until Victoria offers her the deal of a life time that she will have to break her good girl rules at a chance for her dream job. Amelia hastily accepts Victoria's devilish offer before thoroughly thinking through the consequences, throwing her sanity and scruples out the window in the process. In the end she'll have to decide if Victoria's offer is actually worth it by risking her reputation and a chance at true love.
