Even, modern pharmacopoeia still it has at least 25% drugs obtained from herbs and several which are synthetic analogues built on prototype compounds isolated from plants.
Demand for medicinal plants is growing in all the part of world due to increasing identification of natural products being non-narcotic, having no side effects, easily available at affordable prices and for a time, the single source of health care existing to the poor. The global demand for medicinal plants is increasing at a faster pace. The high cost of modern medicines, their non-availability in remote areas, and most importantly, the serious side effects of certain drugs, have increased the demand for traditional medicine. The global market value of pharmaceuticals derived from genetic resources was estimated at US $75,000-150,000 million annually.
