This study focuses on the iconography of the superb Mayan sculpture in the northern Yacatan. Specifically it concentrates on freestanding sculpture (stelae, altars and statues) and architectural features such as coulmns lintels etc, excluding the stylistically different mosaics which adorn temple facades. Julie Patrois reconstructs a chronology for the works, looks at outside influences on the iconography, the relationship of sites in the northern Yucatan to each other and the religious and social context of the artwork.
