Ethnobotanical study of floating plants in Dangbo (Benin)

The problem of floating aquatic plants has become a preoccupying subject in Africa and in particular in our country, Benin. The study carried out in the commune of Dangbo, in particular on the Ou?m? River, on floating species and especially on the various uses has allowed to collect important information. 17 plant species divided into 16 genera and 13 families were identified. Most of these species are exotic. The proliferation of floating plants involves nuisances and ecological, economic, sanitary and social impacts. To control the infestation of the Ou?m? River in the region, the populations of Dangbo (assisted by private and state structures) have adopted 2 methods to fight against these invasive plants: physical control (mechanical and manual) and biological control. In addition, techniques for the recovery of these harmful plants have been put in place by these populations. Today in Dangbo, floating plants appear to be both less dangerous and much more interesting economically, although they have not yet revealed all their secrets.
