A survey by Montet of the artistic, religious, social and other ways of the Egyptians, particularly good at explaining the activities of the priesthood and the significance of the death rites. While Montet is strong on geography (explaining the northern, southern, eastern and western limits of Egyptian culture, including its contacts with the Red Sea and Gulf societies) his observations on history per se are less strong, since the book does not follow a chronological pattern. Ideal for beginning an appreciation of Egyptian art and architecture.
A WELCOMED REPRINT OF AN EGYPTOLOGY "CLASSIC"
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 25 years ago
This is a most welcomed reprint of a "classical" title from the expert hand of late Prof. P. Montet. Anyone concerned with the history, culture, art and religion of ancient Egypt should own a copy of it. Masterly written, well-illustrated, minutely researched; a great title from which you would not miss anything. Although bulky and seemingly dense, this book can be easily and eagerly read from start to end.
