ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

Two masterpieces written by the 2024 Nobel Prize in Literature laureate, now collected in a box set.

Impossible to Say Goodbye
On a freezing morning in late December, Gyeongha receives an unexpected message from her friend Inseon: after suffering an accident at her carpentry workshop on Jeju Island, she has been rushed to a hospital in Seoul. From her hospital bed, Inseon begs her to take the first flight to the island and take care of her little parakeet before it runs out of food and water.

But, unfortunately, when Gyeongha arrives in Jeju, a terrible snowstorm breaks out. Will she make it in time to save the bird before nightfall? Will she survive the icy wind that engulfs her at every turn? What she doesn't suspect is that something even darker awaits her at her friend's house.

There, the buried history of Inseon's family is about to come to light through dreams and memories passed down from mother to daughter and a carefully compiled archive documenting one of the worst massacres in Korean history.

Human Acts
May 1980. The city of Gwangju revolts against the military dictatorship of Chun Doo-hwan, who seized power in South Korea a few months earlier. The civilian opposition, led by college students, revolts in support of democracy, but the army brutally suppresses the protests by firing indiscriminately into the crowd, making no distinction between students and civilians.

In the wake of the bloody massacre, a young man searches for his friend's body, a soul tries to cling to its abandoned body and its memories, and a brutalized country seeks its voice. In this polyphonic novel, the victims and the survivors who mourn them grapple with censorship, denial, forgiveness, guilt, and the memory of a traumatic event that continues to resonate to this day.
